COACHING SKILLS COURSE FOR MANAGERS - Course flow

By the end of the Manager as Coach 2 + 1-day coaching skills course, participants will leave with a rounded set of skills and approaches for effective workplace coaching. They will have a clear appreciation of how coaching can impact the performance, responsibility and intrinsic motivation of staff.

This coaching skills course is designed as a highly experiential and powerful training experience.

Our coaching approach is fundamentally non-directive, that is, a style of coaching that allows the individual being coached to think, to come to their own solutions, and to take action with commitment and energy.

We have found that ‘asking, not telling’ is counter-intuitive to many managers (and people generally), and our programme is designed to frame non-directive coaching firmly on the Fundamentals Workshop, before exploring the potential of using more directive interventions such as feedback and challenge on the Follow-up Workshop.

Objectives for the Fundamentals Workshop (2 days)

  • To introduce the concept of workplace coaching skills for line managers
  • To enable managers to have more effective and productive conversations with colleagues and staff
  • To give managers the skills to have workplace conversations that allow for individual ownership, responsibility, and personal discretionary effort
  • To help managers create an environment of high engagement and performance at work

Objectives for the Follow-up Workshop (1 day)

  • To review the coaching capabilities development so far of participants from the Fundamentals Workshop and to re-engage with coaching skills development
  • To gain a basic understanding of the inter-personal dynamics in the coaching relationship and how these affect coaching effectiveness
  • To understand how to use directive coaching skills effectively
