In this article, in celebration of Star Wars Day, 4th May, I delve into the link between the main Star Wars characters and various coaching styles, shedding light on their approaches, strengths, and shortcomings. I ask you to reflect on which character reflects your coaching style.
The Jedi Order:
At the heart of the Star Wars narrative are the Jedi, revered for their commitment to peace, justice, and the mastery of the Force. Within the ranks of the Jedi Order, we encounter diverse coaching styles, each reflective of the individual character’s philosophy and experiences.
- Obi-Wan Kenobi - The Mentor: Obi-Wan Kenobi epitomizes the archetype of the wise mentor, guiding young apprentices with patience and unwavering resolve. His coaching style is marked by a balance of discipline and compassion, instilling in his students a sense of duty and moral clarity. Obi-Wan’s teachings emphasise the importance of self-control and the pursuit of knowledge, making him a beacon of wisdom in turbulent times.
- Yoda - The Sage: As the oldest and most revered Jedi Master, Yoda embodies the essence of the sage coach. His coaching style is steeped in ancient wisdom, drawing upon centuries of experience and introspection.
